About the position

The Clinical Nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible for assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing patient care throughout their episode of care, with a focus on ensuring progress toward discharge. This role involves delivering and coordinating care provided by the caregiving team, ensuring that competent and compassionate care is uniformly provided to patients and their families in various settings.

Responsibilities

  • Implements physician orders and administers medications.
  • Starts IVs and performs treatments, procedures, and special tests.
  • Documents treatment as required by company policy and local/state/federal regulations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
  • Assesses and evaluates patient needs and responses to care rendered.
  • Applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Administers over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered.
  • Collaborates with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
  • Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintains standards of professional nursing.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a professional academic nursing program with a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree.
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/TNCC.
  • 1-3 years of previous clinical nursing experience in an Emergency Department, preferably in a large academic, Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
  • Ability to improve job performance through continuing education.
  • Knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools and techniques.
