About the position

The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) at Mass General Brigham is a unit-based nurse leadership role focused on ensuring continuity of care and facilitating interdisciplinary care planning. The CNL serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, and allied clinicians, promoting adherence to evidence-based practices while mentoring and coaching less experienced nurses. This position involves managing clinical care and supporting the administrative aspects of the department, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes and effective communication among care teams.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison among physicians, patients/families, and allied clinicians.
  • Promote adherence to evidence-based practices and hospital initiatives.
  • Document the provision of care in patient charts according to CMS core measures.
  • Coach and mentor new and existing unit-based nurses.
  • Participate in huddles, team meetings, and rounds to discuss unit-specific issues.
  • Conduct walking rounds to assess each patient's health status and needs.
  • Review care plans and coach nurses on care steps and documentation needs.
  • Follow up with patients and families regarding their concerns and care delivery tasks.
  • Serve as a role model for nursing staff and uphold organizational values.
  • Support administrative, operational, and clinical responsibilities.
  • Supervise patient care and guide staff towards optimal patient outcomes.
  • Ensure adequate staffing to meet coverage demands and delegate work appropriately.
  • Promote patient/resident satisfaction aligned with action plans.
  • Share observations related to staff performance with the director of nursing.
  • Participate in staff performance reviews and make recommendations regarding hiring and corrective actions.
  • Promote multi-disciplinary teamwork.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum two years of diverse and well-rounded clinical experience required.
  • Current license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Effective verbal, electronic, and written communication skills in English.
  • Computer proficiency required, with Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • National certification in a nursing specialty preferred.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Anticipate challenges and develop strategies to address them.
  • Demonstrate initiative with the ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing situations.
