About the position

The Director of Animal Resources serves as the University Attending Veterinarian at Oklahoma State University, overseeing the health and welfare of all animals involved in research, teaching, or testing. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with various animal care guidelines and regulations, while also providing opportunities for teaching within the veterinary curriculum. The position reports to the Vice President for Research and involves managing both centralized and decentralized animal care programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the health and welfare of all OSU animals involved in research, teaching, or testing.
  • Ensure compliance with guidelines from ILAR, USDA, PHS, and AAALAC International.
  • Manage the centralized Animal Resources program and provide guidance for decentralized programs.
  • Serve as the University Attending Veterinarian and provide veterinary care as needed.
  • Participate in teaching within the veterinary curriculum as part of the faculty appointment.

Requirements

  • DVM or VMD from an AVMA accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in Lab Animal and Comparative Veterinary Medicine, not including training.
  • Must be licensed (or license-eligible) to practice veterinary medicine in Oklahoma.
  • Direct experience and/or deep familiarity with the AAALAC accreditation process.
