About the position

The Clinical Program Coordinator (PRN) for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Team at Children's National Medical Center (CNMC) plays a crucial role in coordinating nursing care and services for patients and their families. This position requires the successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation at CNMC, followed by the coordination of care through various communication methods including telephonic, electronic, in-person, and mail interactions. The coordinator will work closely with physicians and other healthcare providers to address and resolve health concerns, ensuring that all nursing practices adhere to the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, and CNMC policies and procedures. The role emphasizes the importance of accountability and responsibility in nursing practice, particularly in leading the patient care delivery team for specific patient populations. In this position, the Clinical Program Coordinator will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical care to maintain continuity of care. The coordinator will actively participate in nursing leadership initiatives, contribute to the sustainability and advancement of nursing excellence, and engage in performance improvement processes. The role also involves integrating evidence-based practices and research into nursing care, collaborating with patients and families in shared decision-making, and advocating for their needs throughout the healthcare journey. The coordinator will utilize their expertise in cultural competency to enhance relationships and outcomes for patients and families, ensuring that care is tailored to individual needs. The Clinical Program Coordinator will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining medical equipment and supplies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and applying knowledge of operations and financial principles to deliver quality care in a cost-effective manner. This position requires effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and facilitate smooth patient flow within the healthcare environment. The coordinator will also participate in peer reviews and contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to safety and quality in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate nursing care and services for patients and family members in specific healthcare specialty encounters.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare providers to resolve health concerns.
  • Lead the activities of the patient care delivery team for specific patient populations.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in nursing leadership initiatives and contribute to the advancement of nursing excellence.
  • Engage in performance improvement processes and support the Division of Nursing's initiatives.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice and research into nursing practice.
  • Advocate for patients and families, involving them in shared decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring safe and effective use.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary patient care rounds to optimize treatment goals and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
  • 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of recent pediatric experience in a comparable setting (Required)
  • 1 year of demonstrated nursing leadership experience, such as charge nurse, educator, or council chair/member (Required)
