About the position

The Clinical Psychologist position within the Veterans Health Administration is responsible for providing a full range of psychological assessment services and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions to patients with mental disorders. This role involves working independently as part of the Mental Health Service Line at various locations in Maine, including Bangor, Lewiston, Portland, and Togus. The psychologist will also provide education to patients and their families, consult with other professionals, and supervise psychology interns and residents. The position is full-time, requiring 40 hours of work per week, and offers opportunities for professional development and participation in the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

Responsibilities

  • Provides a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients.
  • Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Provides consultation to professional staff within Mental Health Service and the VA generally and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients.
  • Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients.
  • Functions independently as a member of the Mental Health Service, with full clinical privileges.
  • Assumes complete professional responsibility for clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
  • Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs to effectively coordinate services.
  • Complies with national and local performance measures and documentation procedures.
  • Provides clinical supervision and instruction for pre-doctoral psychology interns and post-doctoral residents.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess a Doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program.
  • Must have completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA or CPA.
  • Must possess a current, permanent, full and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a state or territory of the United States.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in providing psychological services to veterans or similar populations.
  • Familiarity with VA policies and procedures.
  • Ability to conduct clinical research activities.
