About the position

The Clinical Quality Leader I plays a crucial role in enhancing clinical quality and patient safety within Northwestern Medicine. This position involves collaboration with interdisciplinary clinical groups to identify, measure, and analyze quality issues and practice concerns. The leader will utilize various performance improvement tools and methodologies to drive improvements and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with operational and medical leadership to develop and implement communication, education, and process solutions.
  • Partner with medical staff leadership to select measures for Ongoing and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE/FPPE).
  • Coordinate peer review cases for department meetings and quality committees, assisting with the completion of peer review minutes/forms.
  • Perform medical record reviews and data analysis to identify potential quality issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead or participate in committees, multidisciplinary improvement projects, and RCAs/FMEAs with measurable results.
  • Facilitate committee meetings, including the development of structure, minutes, reports, dashboards, and correspondence.
  • Research and develop quality measurement, evaluation, and improvement approaches with support from manager/mentor/peers.
  • Contribute to organizational learning through publication and presentation efforts.
  • Assist clinical teams in responding to quality-related queries from external constituencies.
  • Ensure compliance with quality/process improvement regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a clinical background, or a Master's Degree in a healthcare related field.
  • 2+ years of work experience in a healthcare setting, with 1+ year of quality, patient safety, or relevant experience.
  • Medical record review/abstraction experience.
  • Relevant computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, electronic medical records, clinical databases).
  • Effective leadership, facilitation, collaboration, and communication skills (oral, written).
  • Strong writing and presentation skills, good organizational skills, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) or other evidence of advanced commitment to profession.
