About the position

The Clinical Research Assistant at the Cancer Center BRCF plays a crucial role in coordinating clinical research activities involving multidisciplinary teams, including patients, families, physicians, administrative staff, and representatives from sponsors and Contract Research Organizations (CROs). This position is primarily focused on the recruitment of participants for the Biospecimen Repository Core Facility (BRCF), which is dedicated to cancer research. The assistant will identify individuals who meet specific study and health criteria, contact potential participants, administer informed consent, and arrange for the collection of biological samples. A significant aspect of the role involves preparing volunteers for blood draws and performing the blood draws safely and effectively. In addition to participant recruitment, the Clinical Research Assistant is responsible for managing data related to the BRCF. This includes clinical annotation of samples, identifying samples for distribution to researchers, and tracking both banked and distributed samples when not actively consenting patients. The BioBank at The University of Kansas Cancer Center serves as a vital resource for researchers, providing access to human tissues and fluids, known as biospecimens, which are essential for studying the genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors contributing to cancer. The position requires collaboration with clinicians, principal investigators, protocol staff, and pharmaceutical companies, necessitating strong interpersonal skills and effective communication. The assistant will also be responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of biospecimen collections, maintaining detailed records, and adhering to all relevant protocols and regulations. The role is integral to supporting cancer research initiatives and enhancing the understanding of cancer through the collection and management of biospecimens.
