About the position

The Clinical Research Assistant at Brown University Health plays a crucial role in supporting clinical research projects by assisting Principal Investigators and Clinical Research Coordinators. This position involves gathering and analyzing patient information, conducting interviews, maintaining study records, and performing various research-related tasks to ensure the successful execution of clinical studies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Principal Investigators in coordinating clinical research activities related to specific studies.
  • Identify and follow up with patients meeting criteria for inclusion in clinical research studies.
  • Establish and maintain study records for each participant.
  • Interview patients and/or families to explain the nature of the study and gather information.
  • Facilitate obtaining informed consent from participants.
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow up on documentation.
  • Review medical records to abstract necessary information for forms.
  • Monitor adherence to research protocols and alert physicians of any discrepancies.
  • Perform research-based EKGs, vital signs, and blood spinning as required by protocols.
  • Collect and organize patient data for data entry.
  • Enter study information into databases using computer systems.
  • Perform statistical analyses of data using pre-packaged software and write non-complex programs as needed.
  • Prepare graphs and charts of data results and participate in data analyses.
  • Assist in planning research protocols and coordinate activities of others involved in the research project.
  • Review relevant literature to gather information for the research being conducted.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Applied or Life Sciences or a related area with courses in research methodologies and microcomputer systems.
  • Three to six months of on-the-job experience in clinical research.
  • Knowledge of research methodology theory and techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and gather research information.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and hospital professionals.
  • Analytical skills for developing research protocols and performing statistical analyses.
  • Technical ability to operate and maintain computer systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with statistical software and data analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with clinical research protocols and patient care processes.
