About the position

The Clinical Research Assistant position at Bradley Hospital involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team of developmental and clinical psychologists who are engaged in longitudinal developmental psychological research focused on children and families. This role is crucial in assisting with the acquisition and analysis of participant information for various clinical research projects, particularly those related to children's stress and trauma. Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Clinical Research Assistant will conduct interviews with participants in community settings to gather essential information, prepare and maintain study records, and enter data to ensure accurate analysis. The position also offers opportunities for involvement in presentations and posters, enhancing the professional development of the individual in the field of clinical research. The responsibilities of the Clinical Research Assistant include completing research assessments with children and families in their home environments, recruiting participants from community settings, and ensuring that protocol eligibility requirements are met. The assistant will establish and maintain study records for each participant, explaining the nature of the study to participants and their families, and facilitating the signing of consent forms. Additionally, the role may involve reviewing medical records to abstract necessary information, monitoring adherence to research protocols, and collaborating with the Data Specialist and Principal Investigator to organize participant data for analysis. The assistant may also conduct classroom assessments at local child care sites and assist with the coordination of early childhood clinical services, contributing to the overall success of the research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Complete research assessments with children and families in the home environment.
  • Recruit participants from community settings.
  • Assist in identification and follow-up of participants meeting criteria for inclusion in clinical research studies.
  • Ensure protocol eligibility requirements are met.
  • Establish and/or maintain study record for each participant.
  • Interview participant and/or family to explain nature of study.
  • Elicit cooperation and gather information to complete study.
  • Facilitate obtaining signed consent forms.
  • Schedule participant interviews to complete documentation.
  • Administer standardized and non-standardized research observations and assessments according to established protocol.
  • Review medical records to abstract information necessary to complete forms.
  • Request and follow-up on missing data such as questionnaires.
  • Monitor adherence to protocol and follow-up with participants to correct or complete documentation.
  • Collect and organize participant data into an appropriate format to facilitate data entry and analysis in collaboration with the Data Specialist and/or Principal Investigator.
  • Enter study information into the database.
  • Coordinate activities of others assigned to research projects to interview participants or perform data entry duties.
  • Review literature pertaining to research being conducted to gather relevant information.
  • Conduct classroom assessments at local child care sites.
  • Assist with coordination of early childhood clinical services.
  • Participate in data collection at a research summer camp.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or related area including courses in research methodologies and statistics.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to commute to and from home visits throughout the state of Rhode Island and neighboring areas. Mileage will be reimbursed.
  • Availability to regularly work some evenings and Saturdays is required.
  • Minimum of six months of undergraduate or post-graduate research experience.
  • Experience with children and/or home visiting preferred.
  • Spanish-speaking preferred but not required.
