About the position

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Research Assistant to join our team to provide administrative and clinical support for the UCLA Clinical Research Unit (CRU). In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to the smooth operation of clinical research activities. Your major duties will include triaging paperwork, maintaining filing systems, data entry, preparing and distributing correspondence, and answering incoming phone calls. You will also be responsible for faxing, photocopying, and scanning documents, as well as scanning lab manuals and updating research charts and study logs. Additionally, you will prepare investigational drug reports and obtain study participant records from both internal and external sources. Transporting study participant records and charts to and from various CRU clinic locations will also be part of your responsibilities. You will assist in obtaining physician signatures and help with campus and building tours for sponsor representatives. Processing and packing biological specimens using dry ice, obtaining liquid nitrogen and dry ice, and requesting and preparing lab kits and supplies are also key components of this position. You will be responsible for disposing of biohazard material and reviewing schedules for research coordinators, reminding them of their commitments. Assisting in tumor collection and freezing samples in liquid nitrogen, picking up oral medications from the pharmacy, and retrieving used oral medication for recording by the research coordinator are additional tasks you will perform. Attendance at meetings as required and performing other duties as needed will also be part of your role. Experience in packaging retroviral vectors for gene transfer experiments and proficiency in PCR will be beneficial for this position.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with campus departments and the public.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and ensure confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and standard office/lab equipment.
  • Ability to file accurately in both alphabetical and numerical sequence.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and shift priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Skills in performing duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
  • Willingness to travel between UCLA Westwood and Santa Monica Clinic.
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy when preparing lab specimens for shipment and/or delivery to clinical research laboratories.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull equipment such as fax machines, computers, and large amounts of documents and boxes, up to approximately 50 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in packaging retroviral vectors for gene transfer experiments.
  • Experience in PCR.
