About the position

The Clinical Research Coverage Analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate determinations of research patient care billing through comprehensive Prospective Reimbursement Analysis on clinical research protocols. This position is responsible for assisting various departments in developing budgets for clinical trials based on coverage determinations and educating them on the proper research patient care billing process. The analyst will work closely with the School of Medicine Institutional Review Board to ensure that research patient care costs are accurately identified and that informed consents align with clinical research protocols and any applicable commercial contracts. In addition to budget reviews, the Clinical Research Coverage Analyst will participate in the Research Patient Care Billing Training Program, which is designed for clinical research personnel, including Principal Investigators (PIs), data managers, research nurses, and pharmacy staff. This role serves as a primary resource for JHM clinical research personnel, providing recommendations and direction regarding protocol and budget development. The analyst will also educate and advise on the planning and coordination of clinical research protocols, ensuring that all aspects of research patient care are properly managed. The position involves creating Standard Operating Procedures for Research Patient Care, which includes guidelines for Prospective Reimbursement Analysis, budgeting for research patient care costs, patient registration, and billing processes. Effective communication is essential, as the analyst will need to convey results to departmental contacts to reach consensus on research patient care costs versus routine care. Additionally, the analyst will maintain a comprehensive database of all Prospective Reimbursement Analysis grids, protocol and informed consent reviews, and commercial contract budgets. They will also act as a liaison for external auditing activities related to research patient care billing, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and university policies.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve JHM proposed clinical study budgets for research patient care vs. routine care determinations via a Prospective Reimbursement Analysis.
  • Work closely with the School of Medicine Institutional Review Board to ensure research patient care costs are identified and informed consents are consistent with clinical research protocols and commercial contracts if applicable.
  • Participate in the Research Patient Care Billing Training Program for clinical research personnel to include PI, data-managers, research nurses, and research pharmacy.
  • Serve as a primary resource to provide JHM clinical research personnel recommendations and direction regarding protocol and budget development.
  • Educate and advise clinical research personnel on the planning and coordination of clinical research protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field required.
  • Five years' experience in a clinical research environment.
  • Thorough understanding of research patient care vs. routine of care treatment.
  • Knowledge of clinical research protocol management is required.
  • Knowledge of clinical research budgeting is required.
