About the position

The Clinical Services Representative - OB plays a crucial role in supporting clinical staff by performing various clerical tasks that enhance the efficiency of the unit and ensure excellent customer service for patients and visitors. This position operates under established guidelines and close supervision, focusing on maintaining accurate records, managing communications, and supporting patient care processes.

Responsibilities

  • Order and maintain an adequate quantity of forms and supplies on the unit.
  • Maintain unit library information, reference materials, and policy/procedure manuals for easy retrieval.
  • Complete the patient diet list accurately on a daily basis.
  • Accurately enter patient charges into the computer system.
  • Receive, place, and transfer phone calls efficiently, recording and communicating messages appropriately.
  • Maintain patient charts and/or Kardex in proper order, ensuring all forms are labeled correctly.
  • Effectively communicate discharge procedures to patients and families.
  • Transcribe physician orders accurately within specified time frames.
  • Communicate information appropriately to various services such as Housekeeping and Lab.
  • Record clinical data accurately on the patient chart as instructed by nursing staff.
  • Communicate pertinent patient care information and environmental issues to the Manager/Charge Nurse.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assess work area and responsibilities, providing constructive suggestions as needed.
  • Seek assistance from appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Complete other assigned duties and participate in unit teams or committees as requested.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant Training preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to use office equipment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical or healthcare setting is a plus.
