About the position

The Clinical Social Work Supervisor at Central State Hospital is responsible for overseeing the provision of person-centered and trauma-informed care by supervised staff. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with community providers to facilitate successful patient discharges, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and managing census effectively. The supervisor ensures that staff are well-trained, evaluated for competency, and receive constructive feedback to improve service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure service provision is person-centered and trauma-informed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community providers for successful discharges.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff and community agencies to resolve discharge barriers.
  • Provide clear expectations and feedback to staff regarding departmental goals.
  • Evaluate staff competency and performance throughout the evaluation cycle.
  • Address performance issues and document them according to policy.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and improve safety in all areas.
  • Maintain knowledge of discharge planning and documentation requirements.
  • Review Discharge Readiness reports and provide feedback to staff.
  • Facilitate monthly discharge readiness and civil census meetings.
  • Provide individual therapy and restoration services as needed.
  • Cover for the Social Work Director as needed and consult on supervisory duties.
  • Implement tracking tools to manage deficiencies and complete audits.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (REQUIRED)
  • Licensed in Virginia as an LCSW (REQUIRED)
  • Supervisory experience (REQUIRED)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff and provide supervision.
  • Knowledge of Social Work principles and practices, especially in mental health.
  • Ability to provide case management and coordinate resources for patients.
  • Advanced assessment skills and ability to provide individual and group counseling.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Understanding of the NASW code of ethics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior inpatient Social Work experience (PREFERRED)
  • Experience working with DBHDS state psychiatric hospitals or CSBs/BHAs is highly desirable.
