About the position

The Clinical Social Worker position involves providing consultation, assessment, treatment interventions, and advocacy for a diverse population of patients and their families. The role requires utilizing clinical social work techniques and a biopsychosocial approach to healthcare, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to manage complex social factors affecting health. This position is full-time, requiring flexibility to work one weekend per month and one holiday per year.

Responsibilities

  • Completes biopsychosocial assessments and specialized trauma assessments using the department's psychosocial assessment tool.
  • Provides brief, solution-focused interventions and develops safety plans with patients as needed.
  • Delivers trauma-informed, strengths-based, crisis interventions for patients and families.
  • Develops rapport and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Utilizes Social Work techniques such as motivational interviewing and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral treatment.
  • Assists patients and families in coping with newly diagnosed or chronic illnesses to improve functioning and emotional state.
  • Ensures admitted patients and families are informed and supported through prescribed clinical relationships.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with multi-disciplinary medical teams and community providers.
  • Screens and assesses patients for needs regarding social determinants of health.
  • Identifies protective needs related to child/disabled abuse, intimate partner violence, and community violence.
  • Reports suspected cases of abuse and neglect, ensuring timely consultations and compliance with legal mandates.
  • Provides referrals, counseling, case management, and advocacy for health issues such as substance misuse and mental health concerns.
  • Consults and refers patients to community resources and services.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree (MSW) from an accredited School of Social Work required prior to employment.
  • Must sit for the Massachusetts Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Certification exam within the first 90 days of hire and obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of Social Work processes and community resources, generally acquired through 1-2 years of on-the-job training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bicultural/Bilingual competency is a plus.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of racial and ethnic populations.
