About the position

The Clinical Specialist in Behavioral Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a highly skilled professional responsible for providing clinical leadership and developing educational programs for healthcare professionals. This role involves assessing educational needs, designing training programs, and ensuring the integration of evidence-based practices to enhance patient care and safety. The Clinical Specialist will collaborate with various departments to evaluate staff competencies and implement educational initiatives that address identified deficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides area leadership in collaboration with administrative leaders, focusing on orientation, professional development, skills/competency validation, evidence-based practice, shared governance, regulatory compliance, nurse sensitive quality indicators, and performance improvement.
  • Assesses and designs training and/or educational programs to address identified deficiencies/learning needs.
  • Understands and assures the use of adult learning principles and culturally appropriate initiatives and imparts this knowledge to faculty/staff as appropriate.
  • Identifies barriers or concerns which interfere with the learning process and suggests alternatives for resolution; consults with departments, staff, and managers to determine goals.
  • Establishes and leads process improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate RN plus six (6) years of experience (ability to obtain BSN within 2 years of hire) OR Bachelor RN plus four (4) years of experience.
  • Four (4) years in nursing with two (2) years in a specialty area. Special project involvement.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a leadership role (including Charge Nurse, Team Lead, or RN IV level at UAMS).
  • National RN Certification (or ability to obtain it within 1 year of hire).
  • Active RN license & BLS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's in Nursing
  • Experience in an academic medical setting
  • National Nursing Certification in the specialty area for the position.
