The Clinical Specialist position within Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) business is pivotal in advancing the treatment of heart disease through innovative medical technologies. This role involves providing engineering, sales, educational, and technical support in response to inquiries from physicians, healthcare professionals, patients, and field sales staff regarding EP products. The Clinical Specialist operates under general direction, demonstrating a high degree of independence in their work. They are responsible for identifying and utilizing the most effective and cost-efficient business practices to execute processes, continually evaluating their effectiveness and appropriateness. In this role, the Clinical Specialist acts as a clinical interface between the medical community and the business, building and sustaining credible relationships with customers while sharing product expertise. They are expected to have a thorough command of all EP products, related technical knowledge, and an understanding of market trends. The position also involves developing and facilitating training programs on EP products for healthcare professionals, providing regional procedural case coverage, and supporting EP Sales Representatives in various capacities, including sales support, clinical studies, and new product training. The Clinical Specialist must remain current on developments in their field of expertise, regulatory requirements, and have a good working knowledge of company and competitor products, markets, and industry trends. They are also responsible for resolving problems and facilitating resolutions, ensuring that they identify causes to prevent recurrence. This role requires a commitment to continuous development of engineering, sales, and technical skills relative to the overall Arrhythmia Management strategy, including learning opportunities from senior sales personnel and management. Overall, the Clinical Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting Abbott's mission to improve health outcomes through innovative technologies and strong customer relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering, sales, educational, and technical support in response to field inquiries regarding EP products.
  • Identify and utilize effective and cost-efficient business practices to execute processes and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Act as a clinical interface between the medical community and the business, building credible relationships with customers.
  • Demonstrate a thorough command of all EP products and related technical knowledge.
  • Develop, lead, and facilitate training programs on EP products for healthcare professionals.
  • Provide regional EP procedural case coverage and back-up support to EP Sales Representatives.
  • Assist Training and Education departments with advanced educational seminars and preparation of educational materials.
  • Remain current on developments in the field of expertise, regulatory requirements, and company and competitor products.
  • Resolve and facilitate resolution of problems, identifying causes to prevent recurrence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Bio-Medical Engineering, related field, or equivalent healthcare experience required.
  • Ability to become certified on EP products.
  • A minimum of two years increasingly responsible experience in the cardiac pacing and related industries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cardiology, electro-physiology, or cardiac electro-physiology procedures.
  • Familiarity with cath lab and operating room procedures and protocol.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of cardiac pacing systems.
  • Ability to apply engineering skills to interpret and solve complex clinical problems.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication, interpersonal, presentation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to concentrate on detail and work independently.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office or equivalent for developing presentation materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in clinical studies or data collection related to electrophysiology.
