About the position

The Clinical Student Intern for phlebotomy at Providence St. Mary Medical Center is a training position designed for individuals selected for the internal phlebotomy training program. The intern will perform various functions related to specimen collection, transport, and processing, while also managing confidential information and utilizing age-related concepts in patient communication. This role emphasizes patient-focused care and requires successful completion of the training program to be eligible for the WA State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection, transport, and processing under supervision.
  • Manage and control confidential patient information.
  • Utilize age-related concepts when communicating with patients and families.
  • Participate in diagnostic procedures using medical equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Selected for enrollment in the Providence Phlebotomy Training Program.
  • Completion of the Providence Phlebotomy Training Program within 3 months of hire.
  • 1 year of healthcare experience including verbal interactions with patients and healthcare professionals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Coursework or training in phlebotomy or related fields.
  • 6 months of customer service experience and phone experience.
  • 6 months of laboratory or related science experience.
