About the position

The Clinical Support Tech I position at UNC Health Care is designed to assist professional caregivers in delivering patient care within a fast-paced 10-bed Med Surg unit. This role involves a combination of clinical support, clerical tasks, and direct personal care to patients, ensuring a high standard of service and patient well-being. The position emphasizes teamwork, professional development, and a commitment to quality patient care, with opportunities for growth within the clinical ladder.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
  • Critically reviews patient care documentation making note of any significant changes in the patient's condition and makes an immediate report to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Provides a variety of clerical tasks including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records.
  • Provides clinical support assistance including cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting software and hardware problems, changing linens, checking supply inventory, and transporting patients/supplies/specimens.
  • Provides direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan of care activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation. Measures and records vital signs, and may be responsible for specimen collection and simple wound care.
  • Reinforces routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and documents patient understanding of instructions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Six (6) months of clerical or customer service experience
  • Fluency in verbal and written English language
  • Capability to develop computer skills if not competent.
