About the position

Thundermist's Mission is to improve the health of our patients and communities by delivering exceptional health care, removing barriers to that care, and advancing healthy lifestyles. The Medical Assistant will provide support by performing clinical and administrative duties under the direction of a Health Care Provider to ensure excellent quality of care to patients. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, recording information in patient charts, preparing treatment rooms for examinations, and obtaining medical histories. This position requires effective communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients and measure vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height).
  • Record information in patient's chart and prepare treatment rooms for examination.
  • Obtain medical history from patients.
  • Prepare provider requested forms, office notes, and external records prior to the patient's scheduled visit.
  • Monitor the provider's schedule to ensure patients are scheduled according to established guidelines.
  • Greet patients and confirm the reason for their visit.
  • Document requests for medication refills and perform routine diagnostic testing.
  • Manage telephone encounters in a timely manner and prepare patients and exam rooms based on visit type.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain clinical equipment, and properly prepare instruments for the autoclave.
  • Dispose of medical waste and sharps appropriately and assist providers in rooms as needed.
  • Clean and stock rooms, alert staff to expired medications or supplies, and perform opening and closing duties as assigned.
  • Complete paperwork and maintain departmental logs, alerting staff of clinical or office supply shortages.

Requirements

  • Interest in working in Pediatrics or Behavioral Health.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent substitute.
  • Post-secondary training in Medical Assistant program.
  • Bi-lingual desirable.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • EMR experience preferred.
  • Professionalism and documentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
