About the position

The Clinical Trial Budget/Contract Manager at The University of Chicago plays a vital role in supporting the management and administration of clinical research. This position is responsible for facilitating the development and initiation of clinical trials, ensuring compliance, and providing leadership within the Biological Sciences Division Clinical Trial Financial Group. The role involves both pre-award and post-award activities, including budget negotiation, contract management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance clinical research operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build and negotiate clinical trial budgets and contract terms with industry, federal, and private funding agencies.
  • Advise Division faculty and staff on clinical trial budgets and contracts.
  • Read and interpret clinical trial study documents including Protocol, Budget, Contract, Informed Consent, and Laboratory Manual.
  • Ensure document harmonization and compliance.
  • Facilitate timely execution of agreements.
  • Interact with other departments, core facilities, and administrative offices for efficient operations.
  • Establish professional relationships with pharmaceutical, CRO, and non-profit counterparts for negotiations.
  • Contribute to data analysis to advance Unit and Division efficiency and profitability.
  • Monitor processing of Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and approval of clinical trial protocol amendments.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with attention to deadlines and priorities.
  • Review applications against University guidelines and prepare grant reports and trend analysis.
  • Handle post-award activities including account creations, regulatory monitoring, salary allocations, and grant closing processes.

Requirements

  • A college or university degree in a related field.
  • 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
