The Clinical Trial Budget Analyst - Pre-Award position plays a crucial role in the financial management of clinical trials by developing, processing, and negotiating industry-sponsored contract budgets and amendments. This position is responsible for providing accounting and analysis support, as well as managing the financial data of assigned Principal Investigators (PIs) for effective budgeting and strategic financial planning. The analyst will also prepare detailed audit reports and cost reports for departmental and institutional use, ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines and best practices. The role involves several key functions, including financial administrative support, sponsor negotiation and interaction, pre-award data management, process improvement, and training. The analyst will work closely with the Director of Research Planning & Development to prepare budgets for industry-sponsored clinical trials, review protocols and amendments for discrepancies, and collaborate with PI teams and sponsors to resolve any issues. Additionally, the analyst will participate in negotiations with industry sponsors and Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to finalize budgets, ensuring that the proposed funding adequately covers the costs associated with the trials. In terms of data management, the analyst will create and maintain files related to pre-award activities, assist in maintaining the ICT Timelines database, and ensure compliance with Good Clinical Research Practice standards. The position also requires identifying opportunities for process improvement within the Contracts and Budgets team and providing training and support to team members on budget-related processes. Overall, this role is essential for the successful financial management of clinical trials at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, process, and negotiate industry-sponsored contract budgets and amendments.
  • Provide accounting and analysis support for assigned Principal Investigators' financial data.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports and cost reports for departmental and institutional use.
  • Work with the Director of Research Planning & Development to prepare budgets for industry-sponsored clinical trials.
  • Review protocols, amendments, and ancillary documents for discrepancies and clarity.
  • Collaborate with PI teams and sponsors to resolve discrepancies in trial budgets.
  • Participate in negotiations with industry sponsors and CROs to finalize clinical trial budgets.
  • Analyze sponsors' budget proposals to ensure adequate funding for trial costs.
  • Create, update, and maintain files related to pre-award activities for clinical trials.
  • Assist in maintaining the ICT Timelines database for tracking contract activation timelines.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the Contracts and Budgets team.
  • Provide training and support to team members on budget-related processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related business specialty.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in OnCore, ePRTCL, RCTS, MS Excel, and other institutional financial systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational and critical judgment skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with personal computers using standard word processing software and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated thorough working knowledge of institutional and state guidelines.

Nice-to-haves
