About the position

The University of Cincinnati is seeking a Clinical Veterinarian or Sr. Clinical Veterinarian to join the Laboratory Animal Medicine Services (LAMS) team. This role involves providing veterinary care for USDA covered species and rodents, assisting with surgical procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The position may be filled at either the Clinical or Sr. Clinical level based on the candidate's qualifications and experience, with the Sr. role including additional responsibilities such as oversight of biosecurity and training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical guidance to veterinary technical staff for rodent health cases and care of USDA covered species.
  • Assist with pre-anesthesia, anesthesia, and anesthetic selection for large and small animal species.
  • Support the Director by providing training for LAMS technical staff and research staff members.
  • Provide support for regulatory compliance and IACUC activities, including protocol review and veterinary verification.
  • Assist with the review of SOPs, Guidelines, and Quality Assurance Standards.
  • Participate in the veterinary on-call rotation.
  • Oversee the Quality Assurance program and evaluate the biosecurity program for rodents.
  • Review, update, and modernize the training program for staff.
  • Perform IACUC protocol management and assist with post-approval monitoring.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Veterinary Medicine from an AVMA-accredited school or equivalent certification.
  • Current license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state, with the requirement to obtain an Ohio license within one year.
  • Ability to obtain DEA license within one year.
  • Two years of experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine for Clinical Veterinarian; three years for Sr. Clinical Veterinarian.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies governing animal research.

Nice-to-haves

  • ACLAM Diplomate status.
  • USDA Accreditation.
  • Experience in an academic research environment.
  • Experience managing genetically engineered mouse models.
  • Advanced research degrees (MS, MPH, MBA, PhD or other applicable degree) for Sr. Clinical Veterinarian.
