About the position
UPMC Horizon is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to take on the role of Clinician Fellow/Clinician in the Operating Room. This full-time position is designed for nursing leaders who are interested in advancing their careers while leading other nurses. The Clinician Fellow will serve as a role model in professional nursing practice, focusing on expert clinical practice, teaching, and evidence-based practice, while partnering with management to foster a culture of excellence in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying opportunities for improvement and leading change processes.
- Educate and support staff during transitions, practicing participatory leadership.
- Assume formal leadership responsibilities for quality improvement and onboarding of new hires.
- Apply nursing knowledge within the framework of Relationship Based Care to meet patient needs.
- Demonstrate solid communication skills to articulate patient conditions and negotiate care changes.
- Utilize performance improvement tools to enhance care quality and work environment.
- Develop productive working relationships through mentoring and positive communication.
- Mentor and educate nursing staff, including student nurses and new hires.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.
- BS/BSN required; if BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
- Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.
- Ability to assess and interpret patient data relevant to age-specific needs.
- Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Mobility and visual manual dexterity; physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree preferred.
- National Certification preferred.
