About the position

UPMC Altoona is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse who is ready to take the next step in their career as a nursing leader. This position is for a Clinician or Clinician Fellow on the Tower 14 Surgical Trauma/Medical Oncology & Palliative Care unit. The unit specializes in the care of post-surgical adults and low acuity trauma patients, providing a fast-paced environment with a focus on quality patient care outcomes. The role involves not only direct patient care but also leadership responsibilities, including mentoring and developing nursing staff, ensuring adherence to best practices, and fostering a culture of excellence in nursing practice. The Clinician will work closely with management to assist in employee evaluations, hiring, and performance management, while also applying superior clinical knowledge to achieve quality patient care outcomes. This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus of $20,000 for external candidates who commit to a two-year work agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication.

  • Applies nursing knowledge and skills within the framework of Relationship Based Care, addressing clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying opportunities for improvement and leading change processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience
  • BS/BSN required; if BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required
  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity; physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Chemo certification and Trauma certification required within one year of hire.
