About the position

The Closure Hydrogeologist (Senior-Level) position at Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) involves managing and leading hydrogeologic assessments and modeling for the cleanup of radioactive waste at the Hanford Site. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while providing technical leadership in subsurface site characterization and contaminant fate and transport assessments. The selected candidate will work within multi-disciplinary teams to support waste management area closure activities, ensuring protective measures for human health and the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret site characterization data and develop numerical models for environmental fate and transport assessments.
  • Compile and analyze data using industry-standard applications for site characterization and modeling analyses.
  • Identify technical issues and develop problem-solving approaches for site characterization and risk assessments.
  • Support the collection and interpretation of data related to backfill and vadose zone sediments for corrective measures and closure configurations.
  • Develop graphical tools and visualization techniques to communicate site characterization results to stakeholders.
  • Participate as a subject matter expert in planning and documenting site characterization and modeling assessment activities.
  • Assist in developing schedules and budgets for risk assessment and performance assessment activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Geophysics, Geology, Geologic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Ten years of directly related experience for Grade 20; twelve years for Grade 21; fifteen years for Grade 22.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or higher preferred with coursework in data science mathematics.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in scientific data analysis, data analytics, spreadsheets, and data visualization.
  • Knowledge of regulatory RCRA/CERCLA requirements for site characterization.
