About the position

The Manager for Closures Engineering Design - BIW & Mechanisms is responsible for leading a diverse team focused on the design, development, and release of automotive closure mechanisms and body-in-white (BIW) systems. This role involves strategic leadership, business management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of projects that meet customer requirements and adhere to safety standards. The manager will oversee a multi-million dollar R&D budget and support vehicle development processes from concept to production.

Responsibilities

  • Create, communicate, and execute the vision for the Closures Engineering Design Mechanisms & BIW Team.
  • Meet all KPIs including Program Timing, Cost & Quality Improvement, and Budget Management.
  • Develop goals and objectives for direct reports and lead tasks to support the team's work plan.
  • Manage and direct engineers in daily activities related to closures mechanisms and BIW systems.
  • Support manufacturing plant and lifecycle activities across multiple locations.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking and detailed engineering cost/weight analysis.
  • Interface with internal and external customers and collaborate with regional affiliates.
  • Support new technology assessment and development for production vehicles.
  • Create presentations and maintain project status reports for upper management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Extensive experience in automotive engineering, particularly in closures mechanisms and BIW systems.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle development processes and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Electrified Vehicles and Light Duty Trucks.
  • Familiarity with engineering order systems and drawing release processes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and lifecycle support.
