About the position

The Cloud Architect - PostgreSQL role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based solutions for PostgreSQL databases. The position involves creating and modifying cloud formation code, deploying Lambda functions, and developing self-service tooling for backup and recovery processes. The architect will collaborate with various teams to ensure adherence to database engineering standards and explore innovative solutions such as AI Ops in AWS.

Responsibilities

  • Create/modify cloud formation code for RDS PostgreSQL that can be vended through Service catalog
  • Create/deploy/modify cross account Lambda functions and/or Python code for monitoring drift detection and SQL performance
  • Modify and maintain existing Terraform code
  • Create/modify pipelines for backup and recoveries at the instance and table level for RDS PostgreSQL/Aurora
  • Create/modify cloud formation code for Dynamo DB
  • Deploy pgAdmin in a hybrid ecosystem
  • Develop proof of concept for replication from AWS to on-prem and vice versa
  • Partner with app and DevOps teams to create Jenkins pipelines that enforce DB engineering standards
  • Perform proof of concept for bi-directional replication in on-prem PostgreSQL
  • Collaborate with Service Now team to integrate provisioning with Ansible playbooks and Jenkins
  • Work on proof of concept for AI Ops in AWS and on-prem using Ansible playbooks
  • Develop self-service tooling for minor version upgrades
  • Use HammerDB for benchmarking performance across versions
  • Automate post-version upgrade validation

Requirements

  • Experience with AWS services, particularly RDS PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
  • Proficiency in creating and modifying cloud formation and Terraform code
  • Strong knowledge of Python and Lambda functions
  • Experience with Ansible for automation
  • Familiarity with Jenkins for CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of database engineering standards and best practices
  • Experience with performance monitoring and benchmarking tools like HammerDB

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Aurora PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of AI Ops concepts
  • Familiarity with Splunk and Dynatrace for monitoring
  • Experience with Service Now integrations
