About the position

The Cloud Automation Engineer will play a critical role in the migration of telecom systems to a new cloud platform, focusing on Open RAN architecture. This position requires innovative thinking and expertise in cloud technologies, particularly AWS, Kubernetes, and networking concepts relevant to Open RAN. The engineer will be responsible for managing cloud resources, automating deployment processes, and ensuring high availability and performance of cloud and Open RAN systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the provisioning, management, and optimization of cloud resources (AWS preferred) to support Open RAN deployments.
  • Design and implement Open RAN architectures, including RAN CU (Centralized Unit) and DU (Distributed Unit) components, ensuring seamless integration with cloud environments.
  • Provision, scale, and manage Kubernetes clusters that support Open RAN workloads, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Develop and automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and CI/CD processes for both cloud resources and Open RAN components using tools like Airflow, Ansible, Terraform, and GitLab.
  • Implement monitoring solutions for cloud and Open RAN environments and develop automated incident response protocols to minimize downtime.
  • Create scripts to automate operational tasks and enhance efficiency across cloud and Open RAN systems.
  • Continuously assess cloud and RAN architectures, recommending updates to improve resource utilization and scalability.
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation, including architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides for cloud and Open RAN deployments.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, network engineers, and operations staff, to clarify requirements, troubleshoot issues, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Engage in Agile methodologies, contributing to team ceremonies and helping drive the automation and integration efforts of cloud infrastructure with Open RAN systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with AWS or related cloud technologies, with a focus on automation and management.
  • Fair understanding of Open RAN architecture and components, including knowledge of RAN CU and DU deployments.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including managing clusters, deploying microservices, and orchestrating containerized applications.
  • Proficient understanding of networking concepts relevant to Kubernetes and Open RAN, including ingress controllers, service meshes, and persistent storage solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient with Kubernetes tools such as Helm, Prometheus, and operators for cluster management.
  • Experience in programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate cloud and RAN operations.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for deploying cloud-native applications using tools like GitLab or Jenkins.
  • Strong background in container runtime management (Docker, containers) and troubleshooting Kubernetes workloads.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or relevant Open RAN certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Agile practices and experience in Agile project environments.
