About the position

The Cloud Compute Frontend Software Engineer role at Google involves leading a team of engineers in the development and optimization of the Compute Engine User Interface (UI). This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to manage projects, mentor team members, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software products. The role focuses on enhancing user experience for critical Google Compute Engine products and requires collaboration across various teams and locations.

Responsibilities

• Lead a group of engineers to work on multiple areas in Compute Engine User Interface (UI).
• Mentor the engineers, set up proper technical guidelines and processes, apply best engineering practices, provide input to technical designs and be accountable for related decisions.
• Help team members plan their career development and provide guidance/coaching, conduct honest and accurate expectation quarterly check-ins and annual performance reviews.
• Build a team with healthy culture, team dynamics and well being.
• Build good relationships with cross functional teams inside and across organizations, resolve possible conflicts and be able to negotiate with partner teams for best possible outcome.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, etc.).
• 5 years of experience with Front-End Development.
• 5 years of experience with web application development.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing projects.
• 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Knowledge of UX design principles.
• Proven track record of shipping quality products/features with big impact.
