About the position

The Cloud Data Engineer III at ALSAC is responsible for developing and maintaining data processing software, data modeling, pipelines, transformations, and related databases. This role involves coordinating with leadership and other professionals to create data infrastructure, running tests to isolate errors, and updating systems to meet technical and business needs. The position emphasizes the importance of data architecture, compliance, and security in the context of supporting ALSAC's mission to help St. Jude cure childhood cancer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data processing software and related databases.
  • Create data infrastructure in coordination with ALSAC leadership.
  • Run tests on designs to isolate errors and update systems as needed.
  • Build and optimize data sets and big data pipelines.
  • Perform root cause analysis on processes and data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Build processes that support data transformation and workload management.
  • Integrate APIs using services such as AWS Lambda and Mulesoft.
  • Source complex data from various sources for central processing in a data lake ecosystem.
  • Manage security structures and protocols in AWS and SQL Server.
  • Build analytical data products from discovery to implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Information Technology preferred.
  • Master's Degree with experience working with stakeholders preferred.
  • Proficiency in SQL for development and analysis.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of API integration using AWS Lambda, Mulesoft, SSIS, or Confluent.
  • Experience with dimensional data modeling and data warehousing concepts.
  • DevOps experience with CI/CD processes for API deployment and application integration.
  • Security-minded with experience in building compliance-aware applications using AWS data services.
  • Extensive understanding of architecting data structures and dimensional data modeling with SQL Server and AWS.
  • Experience with hybrid DevOps deployments and IaaS Terraform automation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Airflow, dbt, CData preferred.
  • Knowledge of API integration using services such as AWS Lambda, Mulesoft, SSIS, or Confluent preferred.
