About the position

The Cloud Data Principal Architect at HCA Healthcare plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based data lake and warehouse solutions that align with business needs. This position is essential for driving the organization's data strategy, ensuring robust, scalable, and secure data systems, and providing strategic oversight for data solutions that support the organization's long-term goals. The role involves extensive collaboration with business stakeholders and IT teams to ensure that data solutions are efficient and secure, while also focusing on the development of Data as a Product (DaaP) to deliver actionable insights and business value.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates across multiple organizations to deliver optimal data analytics and reporting capabilities to meet business requirements.
  • Provides architectural oversight for final solution/product outcome.
  • Collaborates with data source owners to determine the best method and requirement for integration/extraction to support the solution.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of the architecture which supports more than one core business area and data sources.
  • Participates in the overall planning and design of the data lake/warehouse solution.
  • Trains and educates others in the structure and components of the solution.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how the core business applications and support systems are structured and what protocols and interfaces are used for communications.
  • Predicts performance based on the available options and environments, including the ability to synthesize local and regional data requirements into a specific data warehouse application.
  • Demonstrates mastery of data analysis in practical application.
  • Able to design a logical data model or object model of simple to moderate complexity.
  • Identifies redundant data objects and data items that can be re-used across applications.
  • Identifies data transformation requirements and can identify data gaps and recommend appropriate changes.
  • Provides expertise and leadership in data warehouse and data source integration design to meet business requirements.
  • Designs and develops technical solutions, including integrations with external systems both on premise/private cloud and the public cloud.
  • Understands the industry trends and direction for both data warehouse and data lake solutions.
  • Maintains overall architecture and best practices/standards for managing and maintaining the data warehouse solution.
  • Educates users on best practice methodologies, processes, and toolsets defined within the architecture.
  • Interacts with other technology leaders and business owners across the company to determine optimal data elements, platforms, and metrics for both operations and strategies.
  • Develops and maintains the cloud data architecture framework.
  • Designs and implements cloud-native data models, schemas, and storage solutions to meet business needs.
  • Ensures cloud data architecture aligns with the organization's business goals and cloud strategy.
  • Ensures data quality, integrity, and security in the cloud environment.
  • Establishes and enforces cloud data governance policies and standards.
  • Fosters the development of data products that deliver actionable insights and value across the organization.
  • Ensures data products are designed to meet user needs, are easily accessible, and provide reliable information.
  • Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborates with product owners and stakeholders to define and prioritize data product requirements and features.
  • Implements data stewardship practices to maintain data accuracy and reliability in the cloud.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, and database design is required.
  • Knowledge of big data cloud technologies (e.g., GCP) is preferred.
  • Google Professional Cloud Architect certification is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud-native data models and schemas.
  • Familiarity with data governance policies and standards.
