About the position

The Cloud Database Administrator is responsible for implementing and maintaining cloud-based database systems. This role involves working closely with stakeholders to design, implement, and manage databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. The position requires collaboration with application teams and vendors to resolve issues and enhance database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and configure database instances in the cloud.
  • Create databases and allocate resources such as storage, compute, and memory.
  • Implement strategies for high availability, failover, disaster recovery, and replication.
  • Perform deployments and run periodic backups.
  • Establish access and authentication controls to secure data, including encryption and masking.
  • Resolve platform-related issues and coordinate with vendors for product-related issues, patches, and upgrades.
  • Fine-tune database systems to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Monitor and optimize database query performance and indexing.
  • Meet with application teams to understand new or enhancement requirements and recommend project approaches.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on defining and implementing technology direction within the cloud database technology space.
  • Assist in migrating on-premises databases to the cloud and integrating data from various sources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of Database Administration experience with various database management systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, DB2 LUW, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with NoSQL database systems (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, Azure Cosmos DB).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with cloud-based database technologies (e.g., Amazon AWS S3, RDS, Redshift, Aurora).
  • 1 to 3 years of experience working with large databases or large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts, virtualization, and IaaS platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure SQL Database or Google Cloud SQL.
  • Good knowledge of Project Management principles.
  • Excellent verbal communication and strong visual presentation skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to emerging technologies.
