About the position

The Cloud Database Administrator at Kforce Inc is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and configuring cloud databases, primarily using AWS services. This role involves ensuring efficient data flow within the AWS ecosystem, architecting data lakes, and providing technical expertise in cloud technologies. The position requires collaboration with development teams to deliver optimal cloud solutions and support cloud architects in designing data architecture while maintaining security and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and configure cloud databases and administration of these environments and services
  • Understand requirements and make appropriate tool/service recommendations
  • Use AWS data services to build robust and compliant applications
  • Design and implement data ingestion pipelines using AWS services like Redshift, MSK, Glue, Athena, S3, and RDS SQL Server
  • Develop and optimize data processing and storage strategies
  • Architect and build AWS-based data lakes, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security
  • Support cloud architects in designing the data architecture
  • Implement database security controls and features to address cybersecurity challenges
  • Provide technical expertise in cloud technologies including cloud development and data management
  • Collaborate with development teams to design, code, evaluate, implement, and maintain cloud solution applications
  • Work with minimal supervision and serve as informal lead or mentor to junior team members
  • Recommend AWS cloud solutions to meet business needs
  • Build a cloud-based technical architecture that leverages cloud capabilities
  • Implement AWS services to improve security posture
  • Perform on-premises databases to cloud migration
  • Provide technical support and document aspects of AWS environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering
  • Certification in AWS Data Engineer Associate, AWS Database Specialty, or AWS Data Analytics Specialty
  • Minimum seven years of experience as a Database Administrator
  • Minimum five years of experience as a Cloud Database Administrator
  • Experience building, operating, and maintaining compliant computing environments in AWS
  • Solid understanding of various AWS Data services
  • Experience with AWS data analytics tools such as Athena, Glue, RedShift, RDS, and MS SQL Server
  • Knowledge of AWS data management tools like AWS Lake Formation, Amazon S3, DMS, AWS MSK or Apache Kafka
  • Strong knowledge of database design, data modeling, and data warehousing principles
  • Experience with data migrations from legacy on-premises systems to AWS cloud
  • Experience with AWS cloud-native infrastructure (e.g., EC2, VPC, Security Groups, IAM Policies)
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python)
  • Good understanding of source code software like Git or GitHub
  • Ability to establish and enforce database standards and best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
