About the position

The Cloud Database Engineer will be part of the CI Cloud Engineering Team, responsible for building, maintaining, and promoting cloud-based data storage solutions. This role involves designing and developing scalable software solutions, influencing database best practices, and collaborating with software development teams to enhance their use of cloud database technologies. The position requires a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and database management, with a focus on delivering high-quality results within established timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high quality, testable and scalable software solutions within established timelines.
  • Work with the R&D team to design highly scalable and reliable database services in the cloud.
  • Influence, develop, and communicate database best practices for microservices to an R&D division.
  • Participate in project scoping and scheduling; track progress of individual tasks and alert stakeholders of issues blocking or preventing completion of tasks.
  • Serve as a technical expert of cloud database related technologies.
  • Understand and recommend steps to reduce waste within our cloud environments.
  • Analyze production workloads to identify problems and bottlenecks within the system.
  • Work as part of a larger team to complete large projects.
  • Embed with software development teams to fix and improve their use of cloud-based database technologies.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience with cloud based database technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more Object Oriented Programming Languages (e.g., Python or GoLang).
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience of Cloud Computing (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Demonstrated experience with AWS specific Database services (e.g., DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS).
  • Deep understanding of managing large-scale databases in cloud environments (e.g., PostgreSQL and MySQL).
  • Knowledgeable in Infrastructure as Code and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.
  • Experienced in using Git for trunk-based development.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic understanding of Agile methodologies, specifically the Kanban framework.
  • Ability to think analytically and effectively communicate issues and solutions.
  • Ability to work within a team.
