About the position

As a Cloud DevOps and Platform Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will play a crucial role in developing automation for creating and maintaining various Platform as a Service (PaaS) deployments. Your responsibilities will include automatically configuring and deploying PaaS infrastructure, which encompasses identity and access management, network architecture, application security, logging, monitoring, and deployment. You will collaborate closely with your team to plan significant updates and enhancements to our products, ensuring that the implementation of PaaS in the Cloud is successful through architecture guidance, best practices, data migration, troubleshooting, and monitoring. In this position, you will be the primary Platform Engineer working with critical internal and external platform consumers. Your experience with public (AWS, Azure), private (RHOSP, VIO), and mixed cloud environments will be essential. You will also leverage your knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, as well as continuous integration and continuous deployment technologies like GitLab, Jenkins, Puppet, or Chef. Your ability to maintain production-grade applications in virtualized environments using automation will be key to your success in this role. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating pipelines, Ansible Playbooks, and Terraform configurations to automate administrative actions, from resource creation to service configuration. Effective communication and attention to detail are critical skills for this role, as you will be working in a collaborative environment where team success is paramount. Responsibilities

  • Develop automation to create and maintain several PaaS deployments
  • Automatically configure and deploy PaaS infrastructure including identity and access management, network architecture, application security, logging, monitoring, and deployment
  • Collaborate with the team to plan major updates and enhancements to products
  • Support successful implementation of PaaS in the Cloud through architecture guidance, best practices, data migration, implementation, troubleshooting, and monitoring
  • Create pipelines, Ansible Playbooks, and Terraform configurations to automate administrative actions from resource creation to service configuration

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field
  • 2+ years of job-related experience or a Master's degree
  • Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance required within a reasonable time from the point of hire
  • Experience with public (AWS, Azure), private (RHOSP, VIO), and mixed cloud environments
  • Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment technologies such as GitLab, Jenkins, Puppet, or Chef
  • Ability to maintain production-grade applications in virtualized environments using automation
  • Effective communication and attention to detail

Nice-to-haves

  • IT security practices including encryption, certificates, key management, patch management, STIG, RMF, or security hardening
  • Installation of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) technologies such as Amazon Web Services, OpenStack, RHOSP, or VIO
  • Management of Cloud Resources in Amazon Web Services and/or Azure
  • Experience with Platform as a Service (PaaS) technologies such as Kubernetes, Rancher, or OpenShift
  • Familiarity with cloud automation tooling such as Ansible, Terraform, Terragrunt, or Packer
  • Knowledge of open source server, messaging, load balancing, and database software (such as RabbitMQ, Redis, Elasticsearch)
  • Understanding of scalable networking technologies such as Load Balancers (NGINX)/Firewalls and web standards (REST APIs, web security mechanisms)
