About the position

The Cloud DevOps Engineer at BAE Systems is responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams to define infrastructure requirements and understand application needs. This role involves developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, monitoring system performance, implementing security measures, and staying updated with emerging technologies to enhance infrastructure and development processes. The engineer will work closely with the Project Blue Engineer team to identify optimal cloud-based solutions and ensure high standards for application performance and uptime.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define infrastructure requirements and understand application needs.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for seamless application deployment and continuous integration using industry-standard tools and frameworks.
• Monitor system performance, conduct root cause analysis, and implement optimizations to enhance system availability, reliability, and efficiency.
• Implement security measures and best practices to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and applications.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in DevOps to continuously improve the infrastructure and development processes.
• Work in tandem with the Project Blue Engineer team to identify and implement optimal cloud-based solutions.
• Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance.
• Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards for code quality and thoughtful design.
• Manage cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines.
• Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity.
• Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training when necessary.
• Perform server administration tasks and monitor resources to ensure that systems architecture components work together seamlessly.
• Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in creating scalable, high performance data storage and retrieval systems using cloud technologies.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (such as Docker, Kubernetes) and container orchestration platforms.
• Proficiency in cloud computing solutions with AWS, including cloud networking concepts.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network problems.
• Experience using agile methodologies to plan and track work efforts.
• In-depth knowledge of a broad range of computing technologies and providing innovative solutions to complex problems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to understand functional and technical specifications for new products.
• Willingness to accommodate flexible tasking to include contributing to software development when needed.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab and understanding of version control and git workflows.
• Ability to gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.
• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Information Systems, or any related discipline.

Nice-to-haves

• CompTIA Sec certification or other DoD 8570 Certifications
• AWS Certified Developer, or AWS Certified DevOps Developer Certification preferred.
• Experience working in a customer service organization to resolve issues experienced by users.
• Administration and configuration of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems.
• Knowledge of web application development using JavaScript single page applications.
• Administration of system security and performing security checks.
