About the position

The Cloud Development Engineer - Observability role at Pegasystems involves designing, developing, and maintaining observability solutions for Pega Cloud. This position is integral to ensuring the performance and availability of applications hosted in Pega Cloud, collaborating with various engineering teams to implement monitoring capabilities and drive data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop observability solutions for Pega Cloud hosted applications.
  • Monitor microservices used in Pega Cloud services, enabling observability monitoring capabilities such as metric collections, logging, and APM (tracing).
  • Familiarize with OpenTelemetry standards for distributed tracing and open metric collection; define KPIs, SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs for microservices.
  • Manage and maintain monitoring tools and technologies for Pega, correlating infrastructure and application metrics, error codes, and logs.
  • Conduct end-to-end monitoring from customer requests through various backend services and synthetic monitoring.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to achieve goals in availability, performance, and application monitoring, enabling correlation between infrastructure and services.
  • Automate and enhance current processes, providing feedback on bugs and customer experience improvements.
  • Discover, analyze, and resolve problems using Pega cloud infrastructure and management technologies.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in AWS cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, etc.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Helm or Terraform.
  • Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD tools, and Jenkins.
  • AWS Cloud certification.
  • Experience with agile methodologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills using monitoring data and log analysis.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with additional observability tools beyond Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS services and core concepts.
  • Experience in a highly collaborative team environment.
