About the position

The NCDIT-Transportation Web Systems group is seeking a Cloud DevOps Expert for a 12-month engagement to support various cloud initiatives for the Department of Highways. This role requires the candidate to be local to the Triangle region of North Carolina, as they will need to come onsite on the first day to collect equipment and will be required to work one day per week in a Triangle area office. The primary focus of this position will be on the development and design of new and existing Platform as a Service (PaaS) applications and their associated infrastructure. The successful candidate will collaborate with existing staff to plan and design cloud solutions for several applications that are developed and supported by the internal development team. The Cloud DevOps Expert will be responsible for a range of tasks including the development of business requirements, facilitating change management documentation, and creating pipelines to deploy resources to the cloud. The individual will work closely with a development technical lead to discuss all aspects of design and planning with the development team. Key technologies and products that this position will focus on include PaaS applications, Web Application Firewall, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), Storage Management, and Azure DevOps. The candidate will also be expected to maintain a deep understanding of the Azure platform, including Azure Networking, Web Application Firewall, API Management Services, and Microsoft Entra/Active Directory.

Responsibilities

• Research application design for transformation and modernization of enterprise applications using Azure cloud and Terraform.
• Assist in deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure for the organization.
• Maintain a deep understanding of the Azure platform including Azure Networking, Web Application Firewall, API Management Services, and Microsoft Entra/Active Directory and development.
• Research and recommend Azure PaaS Application and Networking Services to support growth into the cloud.
• Document Disaster Recovery technical procedures for Azure Applications.
• Create architectural diagrams and documentation for existing cloud-hosted applications.
• Research, document, and implement an integration process between Azure DevOps and ServiceNow.
• Research products and new technologies to increase the efficiency of business and operations.

Requirements

• Proven experience in cloud technologies, specifically Azure.
• Strong knowledge of PaaS applications and their infrastructure.
• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Familiarity with CI/CD processes and tools, particularly Azure DevOps.
• Understanding of Azure Networking and Web Application Firewall.
• Experience with API Management Services and Microsoft Entra/Active Directory.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with ServiceNow integration processes.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery procedures for cloud applications.
