About the position

The Cloud Efficiency & Optimization/Integration Engineer III is a senior-level role focused on enhancing the performance and efficiency of integration services for a government agency's public-facing Marketplace hosted on AWS cloud infrastructure. The engineer will analyze, design, and implement frameworks that align IT strategies with the agency's mission, ensuring systems support current and future requirements while adhering to compliance standards. This position involves collaboration with multiple vendors to optimize the integration of numerous web services and applications, ensuring seamless operations and maximum efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute integration strategies that align with the agency's mission and cloud infrastructure goals.
  • Analyze and design cloud architecture to support the integration of services and applications.
  • Establish system information requirements in collaboration with information engineers to ensure smooth integration.
  • Lead the integration of new services, applications, and APIs into the existing AWS infrastructure, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and cloud best practices.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot workflow and organizational issues, proposing corrective actions to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • Optimize cloud resource utilization in AWS (and Azure where applicable) to ensure cost-effective performance, scalability, and security.
  • Automate repetitive tasks using AWS Lambda, CloudFormation, and other automation tools to streamline deployments, monitoring, and infrastructure changes.
  • Monitor system performance metrics and recommend improvements to optimize cloud-based systems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, cloud architects, developers, and third-party vendors to ensure the seamless integration of over 70 web services (APIs) and applications.
  • Work with vendor teams to ensure successful integration of their services into the Marketplace, meeting both technical and performance requirements.
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication among various stakeholders, including vendors and internal teams, to ensure alignment on project objectives.
  • Work with project managers to align cloud initiatives with overall project goals and timelines.
  • Conduct security assessments to ensure compliance with agency, industry, and federal standards, including IAM, VPC security groups, and encryption protocols.
  • Collaborate with the security team to maintain compliance with security policies, data governance standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that integration solutions align with open systems architecture standards and cloud security best practices.
  • Lead change management efforts to ensure the successful adoption of new cloud technologies and integration processes.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of cloud architecture and integration processes, implementing improvements to support future cloud capabilities and service expansions.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies that could enhance integration capabilities, ensuring the agency's systems remain scalable and adaptable.
  • Document architectural designs, processes, and integration methodologies for future reference and compliance.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on system performance, optimization efforts, and integration strategies to stakeholders.
  • Create detailed reports on system performance, optimization efforts, and vendor contributions, highlighting areas for improvement and success.
  • Provide technical leadership in architecture design discussions and decisions, ensuring best practices are followed for integration and cloud optimization.
  • Develop training materials and provide guidance to junior engineers and team members on integration processes, cloud technologies, and optimization strategies.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the future cloud capabilities and service expansions to ensure the agency's infrastructure meets evolving needs.
  • Assist in resource allocation and budget planning for cloud-related initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources while optimizing cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7+ years of relevant job experience is required.
  • 14+ years of overall IT experience is required.
  • Cloud architecture design (AWS, Azure) experience.
  • Data analysis and performance monitoring experience.
  • Vendor management and collaboration experience.
  • System integration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Compliance with open systems standards experience.
  • Documentation of architectural designs and processes experience.
  • Workflow analysis and optimization experience.
