About the position

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and documenting high-quality technical solutions for a large and complex data system within the agency. This role requires a strong focus on cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, automation, performance, and availability while adhering to security compliance and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate provided documentation and make recommendations to the government on the acceptability of technical artifacts.
  • Track and report commercial parity exceptions on a monthly basis to support the customer.
  • Evaluate change/release notifications from CSPs and advise the government on the operational impact of those changes.
  • Provide direction on designing cloud infrastructure capable of supporting applications in the cloud with an emphasis on scalability, automation, performance, and availability.
  • Advise the user community on CSO adoption based on specific DoD use cases.
  • Interact with CSPs on a weekly basis to discuss cloud adoption pipeline.
  • Engage with CSPs on routine questions regarding DoD configuration, policy, and controls.
  • Facilitate and attend multi-cloud technical exchange meetings.
  • Develop and track DoD CSO demand tracking list for IC working groups.
  • Work with Cyber PMO to ensure engineered solutions meet cyber compliance.
  • Collaborate with DISA directorates to facilitate circuit connections at multiple classifications, Cloud Access Point (CAP) onboarding, and technical discussions for authorization (DoD PA).
  • Assist in the systems test of tactical edge devices.
  • Provide expertise on cloud implementations and research emerging trends and technologies related to cloud engineering.
  • Implement prescribed solutions for various deployment models (Private, Public, Community, and Hybrid) and delivery models including Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service.
  • Aid in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
  • Plan daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description, and supervisor's instruction to maximize personal output.
  • Keep own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers.

Requirements

  • Must have Top Secret clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years' relevant experience, or equivalent combination of 15 years of education/experience.
  • Certification at the IAT II is required, which can consist of: CCNA-Security, CYSA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP.
  • Advanced understanding of distributed systems via on-prem, cloud-native, or hybrid computing.
  • Familiarity with systems management concepts, processes, and standards, capacity and performance management and tuning, and storage and network management.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure: AD, DNS, firewalls, load balancers, routing, switching, etc.
  • Experience in building applications using programming languages.
  • Experience in database systems.
  • Experience in working with microservices and containerization, including virtualization, orchestration, cluster management, and container storage.
  • Experience with scripting languages.
