About the position

The Governor's Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic team, working remotely from anywhere in Colorado. This position is integral to our mission of providing secure digital services that prioritize the needs of Coloradans. As a Cloud Engineer, you will implement designs and standards set by our Cloud Architects and the Cloud Operations team, focusing primarily on the AWS cloud platform within a DevSecOps framework. Your role will involve deploying cloud platform infrastructure and services using repeatable templates, tools, and processes, ensuring that our cloud solutions are efficient, secure, and scalable. In this position, you will be responsible for provisioning cloud infrastructure and services, monitoring performance, and reporting on project objectives. You will act as the primary infrastructure point of contact for various projects, utilizing your creativity and innovation to develop and deliver cloud-based solutions that enhance the services we provide to the state. Your day-to-day duties will include participating in the planning and growth of the cloud infrastructure, installing and configuring cloud services, and working closely with architects to design solutions that meet business needs and security requirements. Additionally, you will support production issues, troubleshoot cloud platform services, and create and document a DevSecOps tool stack. You will also mentor less experienced technical staff, assist in application/platform integration issues, and proactively ensure compliance with information security standards. Responsibilities

  • Participating in the planning, implementation, and growth of the Cloud infrastructure.
  • Installing, configuring, automating, and monitoring various Cloud Services (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS).
  • Working closely with the architects to recommend and design complete solutions that effectively reflect the business needs, security, and service level requirements.
  • Supporting production issues and troubleshooting Cloud platform and services.
  • Creating, implementing, documenting DevSecOps tool stack to build.
  • Inspecting, deploying, testing and promoting new or updated features, taking into account long term road map and architecture goals.
  • Setting up, configuring, documenting, and maintaining a continuous integration environment.
  • Mentoring less experienced technical staff, assisting in the build out of internal Cloud expertise.
  • Proactively meet standards for information security and compliance.
  • Assist in-house development teams with application/platform integration issues such as security/permissions, Service configuration, and network issues (name resolution, firewall port flows, and load balancing).
  • Identify and resolve infrastructure issues which impact the functionality of the application and hosting platform.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a DevOps/System/Network Engineer automating infrastructure, deployment, network, configuration, or testing processes or comparable.
  • Experience developing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions preferably with Terraform, allowing for the automated deployment of servers/storage/security preferably with the AWS cloud platform.
  • Hands-on experience with Continuous Delivery, Continuous Integration, Reproducibility, Traceability, Concurrent Development strategies.
  • Knowledge of Linux or Windows systems administration.
  • A working knowledge of Active Directory, relational databases, firewalls, and load balancing solutions is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic programming and scripting experience, preferably in Python, Bash, Powershell, etc.
  • Experience with automation/configuration management using Ansible, Chef or similar.
  • Experience with administration of PaloAlto firewalls in a hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Previous experience with NIST.
  • Centralized deployments on AWS, Azure, or Google Compute.
  • Experience working in a consulting capacity interacting directly with clients.
  • Amazon Web Services Cloud Practitioner certification.
