About the position

The Cloud Engineer will be a key member of the Digital Science team at Flagship Pioneering, responsible for designing and implementing scalable cloud infrastructure to support scientific research, machine learning, AI, and other data-intensive applications. This role emphasizes automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement of cloud systems, while fostering a culture of learning and innovation among team members.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure, with a strong focus on automation and operational excellence.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging cloud technologies, focusing on optimizing performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability.
• Automate cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as AWS CDK or CloudFormation.
• Drive continuous improvement of cloud systems, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and security compliance.
• Mentor data scientists on cloud best practices, fostering a learning and building-oriented culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• 1+ years of experience in cloud engineering or DevOps, with hands-on expertise in AWS (preferred).
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or similar.
• Experience with cloud-based automation and orchestration tools.
• Strong programming skills in Python and knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
• Passion for learning new technologies and a builder mentality, always seeking out opportunities to innovate.

Nice-to-haves

• AWS Certifications, including Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Cloud Practitioner.
• Experience working in life sciences, biotechnology, or a related field.
