About the position

Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking a Cloud FinOps Engineer based in Atlanta, Georgia. This position will be responsible for optimizing and managing cloud spending and ensuring that the company's cloud-based financial applications are cost-efficient, scalable, and secure. The Cloud FinOps Engineer will work with a dynamic team of developers, architects, and business stakeholders to develop and implement cloud cost optimization strategies that reduce cloud spending without sacrificing performance or security. This role is crucial in monitoring and analyzing cloud usage, identifying cost drivers and usage patterns, and implementing cost-saving measures. The individual in this position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement cloud architecture and infrastructure that is cost-effective, scalable, and secure. They will also monitor and troubleshoot the cloud infrastructure and applications to ensure high availability, performance, and cost-efficiency. Additionally, the Cloud FinOps Engineer will develop and implement automation scripts for development and maintenance tasks, as well as maintain dashboards and reports that provide visibility into cloud costs and usage. Staying up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies and trends is essential, as the engineer will be expected to suggest improvements and new features to enhance the company's cloud operations. This position may allow for telecommuting from within 50 miles of the Atlanta metropolitan area in alignment with Norfolk Southern's office/remote hybrid work policy when not required in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cloud cost optimization strategies to reduce cloud spending without sacrificing performance or security.
  • Monitor and analyze cloud usage, identify cost drivers and usage patterns, and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement cloud architecture and infrastructure that is cost-effective, scalable, and secure.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot the cloud infrastructure and applications to ensure high availability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts for development and maintenance tasks.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that provide visibility into cloud costs and usage.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies and trends, and suggest improvements and new features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related, relevant field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a cloud financial operations role, with a focus on cost optimization and management.
  • Experience utilizing data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Experience developing Cost Analysis Practices such as show-back or bill-back.
  • Experience implementing cost anomaly reporting systems.
  • Experience implementing environment right-sizing tools and reporting.
  • Experience implementing resource tagging policies for an organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including cloud billing and pricing models.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DevOps tools and processes, such as CI/CD, automated testing and deployment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify cost drivers and suggest cost-saving measures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
