About the position

The Cloud Infrastructure/Automation Administrator at UC Davis is responsible for managing and automating cloud infrastructure, specifically within Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure. This role involves troubleshooting and supporting custom applications that facilitate access control and account management for campus cloud practitioners. The incumbent will utilize their expertise in cloud services, infrastructure-as-code tools, and scripting to enhance the efficiency and security of cloud operations. The position requires adaptability to new technologies and a commitment to continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Administer and automate cloud infrastructure processes in AWS and Azure.
• Troubleshoot and support custom applications for access control and account management.
• Utilize infrastructure-as-code tools for deployment and configuration management.
• Conduct research and design for cloud services to improve operational efficiency.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
• Experience maintaining and automating infrastructure deployments and configurations.
• Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git, Subversion).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
• Knowledge of security practices for operating systems and applications.
• Experience managing AWS solutions including EC2, VPC, S3, and CloudFormation.

Nice-to-haves

• Current AWS or Microsoft Azure certification.
• Experience with AI tools and machine learning for technical tasks.
• Familiarity with security tooling such as SIEMs and vulnerability scanning utilities.
• Experience developing applications using Python.
• Knowledge of Azure and Google Cloud Platforms.
• Skills in backend web server and API development.
