About the position

The position involves overseeing all cloud migration and operations and maintenance (O&M) efforts for a growing cloud team that supports a large Federal agency. The successful candidate will direct and prioritize team efforts while providing strategic vision recommendations to the Government customer cloud lead. A strong familiarity with both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure cloud offerings and infrastructure is strongly desired. In this role, you will provide technical, managerial, and administrative direction to a team of 14 cloud engineers, ensuring that operational tasks and strategic initiatives are planned and completed effectively. You will lead the team in the strategy, design, implementation, and maintenance of the Department of Transportation's (DOT) cloud infrastructure. This includes working closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and define the scope of cloud projects, as well as developing and implementing cloud solutions that align with the DOT mission. Monitoring and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure to ensure uptime and performance is a critical aspect of this role. Staying up-to-date on the latest cloud computing technologies and trends is essential, as is mentoring and developing cloud engineers to ensure the team is well-equipped to meet the needs of the DOT. You will also be responsible for communicating status updates to agency senior leadership and collaborating with other infrastructure teams to realize operational efficiencies within the agency's cloud offering. This collaboration includes working with vendors to identify potential approaches and rationalizing the best-fit solutions for the agency environment. Additionally, you will work with business customers to understand and align technical needs with agency cloud capabilities, facilitating technical exchanges to achieve a final solution architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all cloud migration and O&M efforts for the cloud team supporting a Federal agency.

Requirements

  • 15 years minimum experience within information technology architecting and implementing solutions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles supporting compute, network, storage, and their application within the cloud (AWS and/or Azure).
  • Demonstrated understanding of application architectures (web tier, application tier, database tier) and their implementation in the cloud.
  • Deep understanding of cloud engineering methods, applications, and best practices for sustaining an enterprise cloud environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of security best practices and their application as they relate to cloud-based environments and workloads.
  • Understanding of DevSecOps pipelines and toolsets and how they can work to create an enterprise shared service.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise architecture principles and practices with the ability to identify, rationalize, and solution opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize, balance, and direct team member activities between ad-hoc tasking and planned initiatives.
  • Experience in developing, planning, and implementing strategic initiatives within a roadmap.

Nice-to-haves

  • ITIL v3/v4 certification.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team.
  • Familiarity with agile planning methodologies.

Benefits

  • Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000.
  • Ongoing application acceptance with no deadline.
  • No COVID-19 vaccination or booster requirement by SAIC, but customer site vaccination requirements must be followed.
