About the position

The Apple Cloud Networking team is seeking an experienced platform engineer to develop, deploy, and support foundational platforms for large-scale distributed systems. This role involves contributing to the design, development, and operationalization of systems that ensure high performance and reliability, while also providing technical leadership on impactful projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for building sophisticated systems and will work collaboratively across teams to drive innovation and success.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy, and support foundational platforms for large-scale distributed systems.
• Contribute to the end-to-end design, development, and support of systems including observability and support documentation.
• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects and influence multi-functional teams.
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams while balancing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Champion foundational software and systems development principles.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with large-scale production systems.
• Experience with container technologies including APIs (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code/configuration management tools and APIs (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform).
• Strong track record of working with multi-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Software development skills in interpreted languages (Python, etc.) and compiled languages (Golang, etc.).
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI systems (Jenkins, etc.).
• Experience building monitoring, alerting, and observability for large-scale distributed systems.
• Knowledge of operating systems and bare metal systems.
• In-depth knowledge of networking protocols and packet forwarding architecture.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, architectures, and APIs.
