About the position

Highmark Health is seeking a Cloud Operation Engineer who will play a pivotal role in advocating for cloud technology and providing the necessary engineering support to drive the organization's next-generation technologies. This intermediate-level position is focused on adopting, expanding, maintaining, and optimizing cloud usage across the organization. The incumbent will be responsible for the support and engineering of cloud solutions, ensuring they remain current with new cloud offerings to meet corporate objectives effectively. The Cloud Operation Engineer will engineer and implement cloud-based technical architectures, develop migration approaches, and deploy cloud resources while optimizing applications through automation technologies. This role involves defining cloud resource procurement and performance patterns by monitoring usage trends to enhance cloud spending and resource efficiency. The engineer will propose innovative ideas and solutions to senior engineers to further enhance cloud service utilization and optimization. Additionally, the incumbent will develop automation scripts and repeatable patterns to facilitate the deployment of software and services into cloud environments. They will conduct research and analysis for new cloud deployment proposals and modifications to existing services, providing sound recommendations for the best course of action. The role also includes Level 2 incident, problem, and change management responsibilities related to cloud operations, along with developing documentation to support operational processes and procedures. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer & implement cloud-based technical architectures and migration approaches.
  • Deploy cloud resources and optimize applications using automation technologies.
  • Define cloud resource procurement and performance patterns through monitoring and tracking usage.
  • Propose ideas and solutions to senior engineers for cloud service utilization and optimization.
  • Develop automation scripts and repeatable patterns for software and service deployment in cloud environments.
  • Conduct research and analysis for new cloud deployment proposals and modifications to existing services.
  • Perform Level 2 incident, problem, and change management for cloud operations.
  • Develop documentation to support operations processes and implementations.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Cloud Computing, Computer & Information Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or closely related discipline.
  • 3 years of experience with at least two modern programming languages (Java, JavaScript, BASH, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience providing operational support for at least one cloud service provider (Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or Amazon Web Services).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience producing fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying scalable cloud-based solution architectures using automation tools like Terraform or Ansible.
  • Experience with IT security practices such as identity and access management, data protection, and encryption.
  • Knowledge of containerization and container orchestration technologies like Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
