About the position

The Cloud Security Engineer position at SOFT's client in New York, NY, is a long-term contract role that requires a blend of technical expertise and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious and passionate about technology, with a strong ability to collect and analyze data effectively. This role demands independence, excellent planning and analytical skills, and superior communication abilities. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring the security of cloud-based systems and applications, working closely with various platforms and technologies to maintain and enhance security protocols. In this position, the engineer will engage with a variety of cloud services and tools, including EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, CloudWatch, Docker, ActiveMQ, RDS/Postgres, Firebase, and Sentry. A foundational knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, and SQL is essential, with additional familiarity in frontend technologies like React, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript being beneficial. While knowledge of React Native and Kotlin is desired, it is not mandatory. The engineer will also interact with various SaaS providers, including GitHub, GitLab, Sentry, Intercom, Airtable, and Expo, to ensure seamless integration and security across platforms. Candidates should have prior working knowledge of railroad operations and GIS or location-based data systems, including tools like Mapbox and ESRI. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required, although equivalent experience may be considered. The role also necessitates prior experience in designing customer-facing applications and managing projects, including writing technical documents such as scopes of work, software requirements, and estimates. This position is exclusively for independent consultants, and third parties or subcontractors are not permitted.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the security of cloud-based systems and applications.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify security vulnerabilities.
  • Work independently to implement security measures and protocols.
  • Collaborate with teams to design and maintain secure cloud architectures.
  • Write technical documents including scopes of work and software requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Prior experience designing customer-facing applications.
  • Experience running projects and writing technical documents.
  • Basic knowledge of cloud platforms and systems: EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, CloudWatch, Docker, ActiveMQ, RDS/Postgres, Firebase, and Sentry.
  • Knowledge of programming languages including Java, Kotlin, and SQL.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of React, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript for frontend work.
