About the position

The Youth Career Coach at Eastern Mexico University plays a vital role in providing job readiness training and coaching to adolescents, focusing on individual mentoring and post-secondary support services. This position is part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) initiative, which aims to serve youth in the Eastern Mexico Region in collaboration with the Eastern Area Workforce Development Board. The Youth Career Coach is responsible for developing individualized service strategies that align with each participant's educational and employment goals, ensuring that they receive the necessary support to achieve positive outcomes. In this role, the Youth Career Coach will assess participants' job readiness, identify their needs, and provide career counseling to help them meet both short-term and long-term employment and educational objectives. The coach will coordinate the recruitment and enrollment of program participants, deliver individual and group-based career readiness training, and facilitate life skills workshops. Additionally, the coach will develop and execute professional curricula related to job skills and post-secondary education, utilizing labor market information and industry trends to guide participants in assessing their opportunities. Building relationships with potential employers is a key aspect of this position, as the Youth Career Coach will coordinate the placement of well-prepared youth into job opportunities. The role also involves providing supportive services and follow-up to program participants, performing routine administrative functions such as client record keeping and research, and fulfilling any special administrative assignments as needed. The Youth Career Coach must be adaptable and ready to take on other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the program and its participants.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an individualized service strategy for each participant that identifies educational and employment goals and objectives with services and support for positive outcomes.
  • Assess participant's job readiness and determine needs, provide career counseling, and assist participant with meeting long and short-term employment and educational goals.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and enrollment of program participants.
  • Provide individual and group-based career readiness training/life skills workshops.
  • Develop and execute professional curricula related to job skills and post-secondary education.
  • Use labor market information and industry trends to help participants assess employment and educational opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with potential employers and coordinate the placement of well-prepared youth into those opportunities.
  • Coordinate supportive services and provide follow-up services to program participants.
  • Provide training as requested by administration.
  • Perform routine administrative functions (statistics, client record keeping, research, etc.) and special administrative assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent amount of education and/or experience (one year of experience in a related field equals one year of education).
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
  • Excellent computer and office skills.
  • Ability to establish good professional relationships with staff, employers, clients, and diverse populations.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license as travel is required.
