About the position

The CMM Quality Technician D at L3Harris is responsible for performing inspections on electronic assemblies and mechanical hardware, ensuring compliance with configuration documentation. This role involves developing and maintaining CMM programs, reviewing blueprints, preparing data submittal packages, and participating in quality assurance processes. The technician will also engage in continuous improvement efforts and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections on incoming and in-process electronic assemblies and mechanical hardware.
  • Ensure that product is manufactured to the latest applicable configuration documentation.
  • Develop, maintain, and generate Coordinate Measuring Machinery (CMM) programs used to inspect and verify production materials and components.
  • Review blueprints and specifications to establish correct inspection criteria following best practices.
  • Prepare and review data submittal packages for end item deliverables (composed of test data, inspection results, C-of-C's, etc.)
  • Prepare Deficiency Reports (DRs) for hardware, software, and documentation issues.
  • Maintain, control and process non-conforming material.
  • Participate as a member within Material Review Board (MRB); role is interchangeable with Quality Engineering when required.
  • Assist in defect tracking and evaluation process, including trend evaluation to reduce recurrences.
  • Generate Corrective Action Requests (CARs) for vendor quality rejections.
  • Assist in the implementation of AS9100 and Procedure Development.
  • Assist in coordination of failure analysis efforts.
  • Perform auditing, surveillance and monitoring.
  • May perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.
  • Promote cordial relationships and foster and maintain a favorable business profile with customers, suppliers, co-workers, industry and professional associations, government agencies and the local community.
  • Participate and lead continuous improvement efforts within job role.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • 4 years of experience in surface plate inspection and CMM operation and ability to program with Calypso or INSPECT or other similar programs.
  • 4 years of experience in reading blueprints and other plans, as well as an understanding of safety and operating procedures for using and maintaining CMM machinery and other tools.
  • 4 years of experience in GD&T application on drawings and metrology.
  • 4 years of experience using mechanical and electrical measuring instruments (dial calipers, micrometers, multi-meters, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Eight (8) years plus of related technical experience is preferred.
  • Ability to record accurate inspection data and write a concise report of findings.
  • Good interpersonal skills; pays attention to detail; and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of mechanical machining, fabricating, plating and assembly processes.
  • Understanding of electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to adapt to various job assignments with minimal direction/supervision.
  • Familiar with IPC, ASTM, and Military Standards.
  • J-STD-001 or IPC-610-A certification.
  • ISO 9001/AS9100 “Lead Assessor” and “Implementation” certification and experience a plus.
